Nevada, the Silver State

While much of the State of Nevada lies within the Great Basin and Mojave deserts, the state is not just sand and sagebrush!

In fact, Nevada is the most mountainous state in the U.S. with 314 mountain ranges; the highest mountain being Boundary Peak at 13,141 feet.   Since most of the mountain ranges run essentially north to south, you would have to see the state from the air to truly appreciate this maze of mountains and valleys.

Nevada is Spanish for "snow-capped."

The name was adopted in 1861 when the Nevada territory was established.   Nevada became a state just a few years later in 1864.

24 State Parks

Some people joke about Nevada that "there is not a lot to do and a lot of space to do it" but with 24 state parks, national parks, mountains, lakes, golf courses, ski resorts, casinos and more, there is unbelievable beauty and variety here and lots of places to find it.

If you have seen Lake Tahoe, the Valley of Fire, or Red Rock Canyon, to name a few, you will know what we mean.  And if you haven't seen any of those places then you might want to start planning your Nevada vacation right now.

Mysteries Too!

Everyone knows about Area 51 and the Extraterrestrial Highway (375) but those aren't the only mysteries in Nevada.  Early inhabitants carved signs and pictures ( petroglyphs) on rock walls and caves in more than 100 locations around Nevada.  These petroglyphs have never been deciphered and some great examples can be seen in the Vally of Fire near Las Vegas and the Rainbow Canyon in eastern Nevada.

And how about the Anasazi people who lived in the Lost City in southern Nevada and mysteriously disappeared nearly 1,000 years ago!

And Great Diversity

From the Sierras to the Mojave; Lake Tahoe to Lake Mead; Laughlin to Lovelock; and everywhere in between, you may never find a state with greater diversity, interesting destinations, or scenic beauty than Nevada.
